Girls Softball 2023 General Info:
Penfield Little League Girls Only Softball has the following 4 Divisions of Play:
- Rookies T-Ball Softball, Birth Date in Years 2016, 2017 and 2018
Our introductory level of play will teach the girls the most basic fundamentals of fielding, throwing, hitting
and running. Girls and coaches will have the option to hit off a coach pitching or a tee based on what’s best for that particular athlete. We will bat through the order each inning with no outs or runs being recorded. Teams can expect to play twice per week; once on a weeknight and once on Saturday.
- Machine Pitch Softball (for Girls Only), Birth Date in Years 2014 and 2015
*** NEW LEVEL OF PLAY FOR 2023 ***
This is not our former rookies program. This league is designed to help girls transition from coach pitch,
base-to-base softball, to our competitive minors kid-pitch program. This league begins to teach the
importance of proper baserunning and making the right play defensively. Players will be allowed to take
extra bases, outs will be recorded and treated appropriately. The machine pitch element will help ensure
consistent pitching from a 35-foot distance. There may be an option to incorporate some live kid-pitching
elements toward the end of the regular season. Teams can expect to play twice per week; once on a weeknight
and once on Saturday.
- Minors Player Pitch (11" Ball, Pitch Distance 35') Girls Only, Birth Date in Years 2012 and 2013
There are no changes to this level of play. This remains a modified version of regular softball. Girls are allowed
to lead off once the ball crosses home plate. It is a player-pitch league with the exception of after ball 4. There
are no walks in this league. A coach of the batting team will come in to pitch the his or her batter after the
count reaches 4 balls. The batter retains the number of strikes on her and still may strike out. Games are
umpired with scores and standings kept throughout the season. Regular season and post-season tournament
champions will be crowned. Teams will play between 2 or 3 games per week.
- Majors Player Pitch (12" Ball, Pitch Distance 40') Girls Only, Birth Date in Years 2010, 2011 and 2012
This is regular softball. Baserunners may leave on the release of the pitch. 100% player pitch. Batters walk on
Ball 4. This league will be in a combined league with other local little league programs. The league typically
includes Fairport & Pittsford majors teams as well. League championships will be done in coordination with the
other little leagues.
